Jen & Kate's Romantic Getaway Part II: Zurich

We lucked out that Kate's visit coincided with a weekend festival that occurs only once every 3 years - Züri Fäscht or Zuri Fest.  I still have no idea what the significance is behind the celebration, but it's a nice excuse to have the city transform....tons of food stalls, temporary bars/clubs, a ferris wheel, air shows, water shows, fireworks, concerts, etc. were set up for this 3 day event.  Friday night we arrived late into Zurich exhausted from our Parisian Adventures, and decided to stay home and rest up for the big day ahead...
Saturday Morning/Afternoon
Well rested from our night in, Kevin and I made breakfast to help sustain us through the festivities.
A nice shot of Lake Zurich
Taking a Champagne break on a bench by the lake
The city transformed
Smoothie Stall
Air Show
Hanging out by the lake

Saturday Evening/Night
We spent the evening enjoying outdoor concerts, watching fireworks, partying the night away in a temporary club (that would be torn down after the festival), and finished off the night/early morning at a friend's apartment...
The concert grounds.  Usually this area is just grass.  Basically anything that isn't nature was put up solely for Zuri Fest.
One of the temporary clubs constructed for Zuri Fest
The start of one too many Vodka Red Bulls

The crew minus Kate.  Kevin and I are kinda ruining it with our closed eyes, but this is the only pic I got.
First up The Roots

Marc being the Fedora guy.  Someone's gotta do it.
Concert break for lakeside fireworks.  Sadly, the camera doesn't do it justice.  It was a fantastic show choreographed to music.

Back to the concert.  The boys went nuts for these guys - Deichkind.  They are this German hip-hop/electro band with crazy stage theatrics. Bungee jumping, crowd surfing on ships, ridic costumes, bouncy castles...just do yourself a favor and watch this video:

Kate & I enjoying the concert
Marc & Kev having fun too
Pumped up from Deichkind we headed over to one of the temporary clubs built for Zurifest.

I think we had a good time
Not quite ready to call it a night, we headed over to Marc's apartment...
Kate, this is what you missed while passed out on the couch.  A drunken horse head dance party.

Sunday
On the tram ride home Kevin was blaring Rudimental's "Feel the Love" on repeat, Kate passed out, and I was yelling at him to turn down that awful shit music.  Despite the colorful ride home, we were able to make our way to bed as the sun was rising.  Even more surprising still, I managed to get in some sleep despite feeling like my Vodka Red Bull heart was going to pump right out of my chest. We for sure didn't wake up feeling 100%, but we convinced Kate to join us at Seefeld's Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen for some recovery and self-reflection...

The water was way too cold for this Florida girl, but Kate went for it and let Lake Zurich work its magic for an instant hangover cure.
Pretty good for a Trini....he made it up to his knees

Sunday night we took it easy in preparation for our early morning train ride to Bellagio, Italy.  The Kate & Jen saga continues...

  1. 1. How on earth do you stay so thin, Jen, with all that eating and drinking???

    2. Does Kev EVER work???

    3. Never stop writing this. You are not allowed to have children. Ever. Lest your blog turn away from something I covet and dream about to something I don't need any more of: stories about bed wetting and tantrums and mispronounced words... oh wait--that's a blog about Kevin! Ha!

  2. 1. Thank you! I knew I loved you :). One of the luxuries of being a Hausfrau - I have time to go to the gym.

    2. Yes, I swear he does! A lot of our trips are long weekends so he only takes off a couple days at a time, as opposed to weeks at a time.

    3. Hahaha, got it. No boring baby blogs.
