Kate only had one day left of her visit so I had to get this girl to a mountain - STAT. I mean, you can't come all the way to Switzerland and not see the Alps for God's sake. So I planned a super Swiss day that included Mt. Pilatus, Lucerne, and making a BBQ by Lake Zurich....
Mt. Pilatus
Considering Kate's injured feet were hurtin' after more than a week of European walking, we decided to bypass hiking and took the cogwheel up instead. Mt. Pilatus boasts the world's steepest
cogwheel railway, which is only open from May-November. I had never ridden it before and was excited to check it out.

Dad, this one is for you. I know how you love to read a sign. |
|
And we're off |
Views from the ride...

Uh-oh, starting to get misty. |
|
No!!! |
|
What a bummer. Gorgeous ride up, but hardly any visibility at the top. |
|
We decided to grab some lunch, hoping it would clear up a bit. Kate was not impressed with her 29 CHF meal...seriously, 29 CHF just for sausage and potatoes?? Welcome to Switzerland Kate! |
|
And the visibility went from slim to none. So bummed Kate didn't get to see its full potential...click here to see Mt. Pilatus in February. Oh well, just gives her a reason for a second visit! |
Ride back down...
Lucerne
After our cogwheel ride we trained it over to Lucerne...
|
These paintings line the ceiling of the covered bridge and depict scenes from Lucerne's history. |
Lake Zurich BBQ
After checking out Lucerne we headed back home, because no summer visit to Zurich would be complete without a lakeside BBQ...
And with that the story of Jen & Kate's Romantic Getaway comes to an end; an adventure not soon to be forgotten. Love ya Kate!!! xx
